There are plenty of reasons you can find to throw a party. Ethnic parties are centered around a certain theme such s Hanukkah, Diwali, or a Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah.

Hanukkah is the eight-day celebration the Jewish families celebrate that usually coincides with the Christian holiday of Christmas. During Hanukkah Jewish families will light candles each night at sundown while they recite their blessings. Hanukkah also involves traditional Jewish foods and the giving of small gifts.

For a Hanukkah party you will want to decorate you house in blue, white, and silver since these are the traditional colors of the country of Israel. You will need a menorah which is a special Jewish candelabra that has nine branches to hold nine candles. The ninth candle is called the shamas candle and it is used to light the other candles each evening. At the end of the eighth day you will have all nine candles lit.

During this time the Jewish families enjoy traditional Hanukkah foods such as potato latkes that are fried in oil and served with applesauce and sour cream.

Divali is another time that many people choose to have ethnic parties. This is a large festival in Hinduism and is a time for certain religions to celebrate Diwali which known as the Festival of Lights. During Diwali people will light diyas, which is a cotton string wick that is placed in a small clay pot filled with coconut oil. The lighting of this wick signifies the victory of good over evil in an individual's life. This large festival is a five day festival that takes place on the new moon between October 13 and November 14.

Bar Mitzvah is a Jewish celebration of the time when a male child comes of age, usually at age 13. A Bar Mitzvah ceremony is held at the temple and the male child is allowed to take part in the ceremony as an adult. After this ceremony the Jewish people feel that the male has reached an age of accountability and is now responsible for his own actions.

A Bat Mitzvah is also a Jewish celebration that celebrates the female child who comes of age. In many Jewish families this occurs at age 12 because the girls are believed to mature faster than the boys. Other Jewish families stick with tradition and wait until the girl is age 13. This ceremony also centers around the girl that has reached the age of accountability and from that day forward will be responsible for her own actions.

There are many different kinds of ethnic parties that are celebrated around the world. The Christians celebrate Christmas by having Christmas parties and family get-togethers. Most religions have holidays that are centered around ethnic parties and celebrations. Most of these parties will include certain rituals and food. Many ethnic parties involve the giving of gifts to each other and the gathering of families. Each year families of all religions plan for these celebrations and look forward to gathering with friends and family in a time of food and celebration.
